There is a little bit of gray area when it comes to selecting the best field type option for yes/no questions and answers in your database of records. Hopefully, we can help you clear this up!

AE Tip™ If in doubt, use the field type "Set of Options" and set your options to a single-select Yes or No.

Answer these questions to determine which field type is best...

Does this field only apply to a very small portion of my data set?

  • If yes, you can most likely use either - keep reading the questions below to help you make the best decision

  • If no, we'd recommend the Yes/No set of options

Do you want to be able to see if someone has actually made a decision on that field?

  • If yes, use the Yes/No set of options

  • If no, you can still use either in this case

Do you want to be able to track and pull just the “no” answers?

  • If yes, you will need to use Yes/No set of options

  • If no, you can use either

Do you want to be able to require an answer?

  • If yes, we recommend using a set of options (if they must select "Yes" then only put one option)

  • If no, you can use either
