What is Google Analytics?

A freemium web service that Google offers to track your website's traffic and data.

How does my Novi website interact with Analytics?

During onboarding, the Novi team will ask a Google Analytics Tracking ID / Measurement ID to add to the Novi site. To access the Google Analytics Tracking ID / Measurement ID in Novi, click the gear in the top right corner on the backend > Association Settings > Analytics/Scripts > Google Analytics Tracking ID / Measurement ID

Once your website goes live, Google Analytics will start tracking user activity data. Novi does not maintain any customer Google Analytics access or maintenance: Google Analytics are the responsibility of Novi customers to use and maintain.

See the screenshot below for the information that is needed.

Important: Google retired its Universal Analytics (UA) and ceased to collect data after July 1, 2023 from UA numbers.

In order to use Google Analytics after July 1, 2023, implement Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the new version of Google Analytics.

After creating a new GA4 account or converting a UA account to GA4, update the Google Analytics Tracking ID / Measurement ID in Association Settings, or implement Google Tag Manager.

What is Google Tag Manager?

Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tag management system (TMS) that allows you to quickly and easily update measurement codes and related code fragments collectively known as tags on your website or mobile app.

Typically, if you're using Google Tag Manager, you'll include your Google Analytics script as a tag directly within GTM, not Novi. In this scenario, you'll need to choose "Use Google Tag Manager" instead of "Use Google Analytics" under Association Settings > Analytics/Scripts.

Your GTM Container ID, will begin with "GTM-".

This will automatically generate GTM scripts on your frontend pages.
