Audit Log: Who Changed What & When

A brief overview on how to determine what information was changed and who made changes to members, events, blog posts, and other sections.

Novi AMS has an incredibly comprehensive audit log that tracks nearly every change made within the system. This can be extremely useful when researching who, when, where, and why someone made changes to member records. The default display includes before and after values, so "old" information is never lost.


Access the Novi AMS Audit Log

There are several ways to access audit log information on the backend. 

  • #1 and #2 below will display ALL changes across the website. 

  • #3 will only display changes that were made to the selected profile. 

  • #4 will display changes to a particular section of the site, such as a group or transaction. 

1. Under the gear icon in the upper-right corner of your admin screen, click the Audit Logs link.

2. On the left toolbar, go to Reporting, then click on Audit Log.

3. To view the audit log for a specific account, open the record and click the Last Updated link.

You'll also see an audit log link like the one above on other backend pages, including groups and events.

4. Within certain modals on the site, such as on transactions, custom fields, event attendee information, etc. you'll see an Audit Log link at the bottom. This will take you to the information for this particular piece.

Depending on which route you go, the audit log will include/exclude certain Components, which is the first column in the audit log. 

  • Options #1 and #2 above will show all Components by default, but you can select a specific component from the Filter options. See the section below for more info on using the filter.

  • In option #3 above, the filtered audit log will only show the Customer component, which includes edits made to the member's profile. On the other hand, to see that same member's event registration, you would need to view the Attendee component.

  • Option #4 covers a lot of different places on the backend. An example would be edits made to an Event's settings, like the event description or start date - this is found under the Event component. Other examples include Groups and Transactions.


Filter the Audit Log

An audit log can be overwhelming, especially when viewing all changes (#1 and #2 above). The Filter function on the Log of Changes screen is a great way to narrow down the results.

Depending on what information you already know, there are a couple of ways to filter the audit log:

  1. Use Filter by Value to enter text and search the Original Value and New Value fields.

  2. Use the Filter drop-down to select a User, Component, Change Type, and/or Date.


Share the Audit Log

Once you've navigated to the Audit Log, the Log of Changes screen will be displayed. 

To share this information:

  1. Use the link provided in the upper-right corner.

    • Note: If filters are applied to the list, the shareable link will reflect those condition(s). Therefore, if you're going to apply filters, do so before you copy the link.

  2. You can also print a PDF and download a CSV file by clicking on the appropriate icon.
