Sometimes it's necessary to refresh your connection with QuickBooks Online... it's much less daunting than it sounds.

Auto-notification if the QuickBooks Online connection is disrupted

From time to time, QuickBooks Online will request a refresh in the connection to your website. When this happens, your site temporarily disconnects from QuickBooks. The "Master Admin" of your QuickBooks Online account should quickly reestablish this connection to avoid errors in your Novi sync.

In addition to receiving a notice in the Daily Digest email, admins will also see a pop-up alert on the backend as soon as they log in to their Novi site.

To Re-connect

Step 1

Novi will display a warning message over all of the admin pages (on the backend) asking you to re-connect to QuickBooks Online. Click the Connect to QuickBooks button on that message (see image above).

If you do not see this pop-up right away, click on the gear icon and select Association Settings. On the QuickBooks tab, you will see a link to Connect to QuickBooks.

Step 2

Authorize Novi to access your QuickBooks data. If you have access to multiple QuickBooks Online accounts, please read the important notes below before proceeding.

  • It is incredibly important that you choose the correct account to connect to. Choosing the wrong account could cause significant damage to the financial data.

The good news is that the system will guide you into doing this. If an admin tries to connect a Novi site to a different QuickBooks account than the original connection, the system will display an error message - "The QuickBooks company you are trying to connect to does not match the one previously connected to this Novi website. Please verify your QuickBooks company and try again."

You may receive this message below, but click 'connect anyway.'

To Disconnect

  1. Within Novi, click on the gear icon in the upper right of the screen.

  2. Click on Association Settings.

  3. On the QuickBooks tab, click the Disconnect from QuickBooks link.
