JPEGs, PDFs, PNGs, oh my! If you've ever worked on frontend content, you know that multimedia images, links, etc. can completely transform a page. We know that you need to get out the content you want when you want to, so we've made it easy to add as many different accepted file types as possible to the CMS content editor.
Here's a list of current file types that will "just work" with the Novi content editor on your site:
.DOC
.DOCX
.GIF
.JPEG
.JPG
.PDF
.PPT
.PPTX
.PNG
.SVG
.TXT
.ZIP
.XLS
.XLSX
.DWG
Note on Excel files:
Macros-enabled excel spreadsheets are not supported.
Note on .DWG files:
This type of file is a proprietary format used for things like floor plans (e.g. for apartment associations) that can only be uploaded as a file (not as an image). Once uploaded, you can add a link to the file on the frontend website.
When using Novi's Secure Files, these are the acceptable extensions:
.DOC
.DOCX
.PDF
.XLS
.XLSX
.JPEG
.JPG
.PNG
.ZIP
.DWG
Why can't I upload video files to Novi?
Before you begin adding a video to your site, you'll first need to upload the video to a hosting site like Wistia, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
These video hosting platforms use special servers that are built specifically to stream video content, and for that reason, you'll find that almost every modern website embeds videos vs. hosting them directly. This prevents the video files themselves from drastically slowing down your site's load time, but also gives you the ability to use the customization tools (thumbnail selection, share settings, video trimming, etc.) that these platforms have already perfected.
Once you have your videos uploaded into the hosting platform of your choosing, embedding them in Novi is simple! Learn more about adding and formatting videos on your website.
Why Can't I Upload Large Files?
Novi AMS provides the ability to upload and share documents & files with your members using our system. In order to provide the best experience for your users, we do place some limits on the files you can upload. You can upload files in any of the allowed file types that are up to 20MB in size.
If you have a need to provide users with files that are larger than that, we recommend considering a file sharing platform such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or others. You’ll still be able to embed those files directly into your Novi pages and content, but you’ll have the benefits of hosting the file in a service specifically designed for file sharing.
