What is Google Analytics?
A freemium web service that Google offers to track your website's traffic and data.
How does my Novi website interact with Analytics?
During onboarding, the Novi team will ask you for your Measurement ID and add it to your site. If you're adding or editing your Tracking ID after onboarding, you can access this section by clicking the gear in the top right corner > Association Settings > Analytics/Scripts > Google Analytics Tracking ID for Frontend Website.
Once your website goes live, Google Analytics will start tracking your data. All analytics will be the responsibility of your organization to use and maintain.
See the screenshot below for the information that is needed.
Important: Google is retiring its Universal Analytics (UA) and it will cease to collect data after July 1, 2023. In order to use Google Analytics after July 1, 2023, you will need to implement Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the new version of Google Analytics.
After creating a new GA4 account or converting your UA account to GA4, it's a best practice recommendation to swap your Tracking ID (UA ID) for your new Measurement ID (GA4 ID) in your Novi Settings, or implement Google Tag Manager.
What is Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tag management system (TMS) that allows you to quickly and easily update measurement codes and related code fragments collectively known as tags on your website or mobile app.
Typically, if you're using Google Tag Manager, you'll include your Google Analytics script as a tag directly within GTM, not Novi. In this scenario, you'll need to choose "Use Google Tag Manager" instead of "Use Google Analytics" under Association Settings > Analytics/Scripts.
Your GTM Container ID, will begin with "GTM-".
This will automatically generate GTM scripts on your frontend pages.
