If you have migrated your data over from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, you may be asking if you still need to back up your data.

Now that you are online, gone are the days of needing to back up your QuickBooks data every week or so!

Historically, backing up your data was done for several reasons - security, theft, errors... you needed to make sure you had a way to get back to a spot before the issue occurred.

QuickBooks Online takes care of your data backups automatically every night with "the same level of security used by banks and financial institutions" by using multiple hard drives for your data (read more from QuickBooks here).

This article does state that they cannot restore your company files to a specific point in time, but we would venture to say that it isn't needed anyways. If you found an error and wanted to go back to a time before that happened, you run the risk of losing other data or automatic systems within your QB company when importing spreadsheets... when the reality is that most errors can be found from QuickBooks audit log and corrected with proper knowledge of bookkeeping practices and tools.
