When hosting an event, it important it is to make registration simple and intuitive for attendees. Using ticket categories is great way to do this!

Ticket categories allows for the grouping of event tickets, making registration simpler to navigate and finding relevant attendee tickets easier than ever. This is especially helpful for larger events such as conferences that have many different types of registration options.

Ticket categories not only makes registration look cleaner but it also more definitively points attendees to the tickets they're looking for, which means fewer questions and phone calls!

Ticket Categories on the Frontend

If a ticket category is set up, on the frontend event registration page purchasers are shown headers that can be expanded (can click the minus signs to close) when the ticket category is set to be closed by default.

Creating Ticket Categories

To create a new category:

  • Open event on the backend.

  • In the top right of the event, click the New button.

  • In the dropdown, select Ticket Category.

Add New Ticket Category modal:

  • In the New Ticket Category modal, enter the Name of the new category.

  • Add a description if needed to help orient attendees to which ticket category is best for them to select from or if there are ticket limitation notes that need outlined.

    • This description will display on both the frontend and the backend.

Backend with ticket category description:

Frontend with ticket category description:

  • For the ticket category to appear "opened" (not collapsed), leave Collapse by Default turned off.

  • For the ticket category to appear "closed" (collapsed), toggle Collapse by Default to on.

  • Click Save & Close

Adding Tickets to Categories

To add tickets to categories:

  • Create event ticket(s) if not already not done. Tickets will not automatically be placed in a ticket category.

  • Locate ticket category on the Tickets tab of the event.

  • Drag and drop ticket(s) to their respective category.

  • The order in which tickets are placed is the order they will appear on the event registration page.

  • Notice that there is a No Ticket Category section by default for tickets not placed in a category. This appears on the frontend with a header of Other Registration Options.

Arranging Categories

Just like tickets can be arranged, so can the to ticket categories!

To edit this, drag and drop category within in the list to the appropriate location in regard to the other categories. This is the order in which it will appear on the frontend.

Editing Categories

To edit the name of an existing ticket category, click Edit next to the category itself in the list on the far right in the ticket category's row.

Delete Categories

Click the carat dropdown icon on the far right of a category's row to delete it. Tickets need removed from the category before deleting the category.

Other Items of Note

  • Ticket categories are displayed to admin in the admin registration modal on the backend.

  • Ticket categories are created per event. Setting up a category in one event will not automatically add categories to other events.

  • This does not affect the functionality or creation of tickets.

  • If someone does not have permission to see ANY tickets in a category or if the category itself does not have any tickets, the ticket category will not display on the frontend for the user.

  • Two ticket categories cannot have the same name.
