Enhancing how your website appears when shared on social medial platforms like Facebook, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn can be crucial for engagement and visibility. Social media meta tags allow you to control the title, description, image, and other elements displayed in previews when the website page is shared.

What Are Social Media Meta Tags?

Social media meta tags are snippets of HTML code placed in the <head> section of your web page. They provide structured data to social media platforms, enabling them to generate previews when others share your content.

Where Can I Add Meta Tags?

These meta tags can be added to all pages in Novi that contain SEO information, including:

  • Homepage

  • Static pages

  • Blog articles and categories

  • Directories

How to Clear Link Preview Cache:

When you share a link in social media, platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and X (Twitter) cache (store) the preview data, such as the title, image, and description, to load it faster next time. If you update your website’s meta tags after sharing the link, the changes might not appear right away because the old preview is still cached. Each platform has tools to clear or refresh this cached data manually.

  • Facebook: Use the Sharing Debugger

    • Paste your URL and click “Debug”

    • Then click “Scrape Again”

  • LinkedIn: Use the Post Inspector

    • Enter your URL

    • It will automatically refresh the preview cache

  • Twitter: Use the Card Validator

    • Paste your URL

    • Click “Preview card” to force an update
