Adding links to your content, both internal and external, is very easy with Novi's content editor. There are a few different ways to create links. See below for information on how to add specific types of links.

Text Links

To create a simple text link, follow these steps:

1) Click where you would like the link to go on the page.

2) Click on the hyperlink button in the text editor.

3) In the modal that pops up, enter in the URL you'd like to link to, the text to display, the title, and the target of the link (opening in the same window or a new window).

4) Save and your new link is created!

Your link will look similar to this: Novi AMS

Buttons

To create a button link, follow these steps:

1) Follow steps 1 - 4 in the Text Links section above.

  • This will add the hyperlink to the text, which MUST be done before you can format the link as a button.

  • Your link will look similar to this: Novi AMS

2) Once your link is created, highlight it with your cursor.

3) In the text editor, click Format > Formats > Buttons, then choose the color of your preferred link button.

Your button will look similar to this, with your association's color scheme:

Photo Links

If you would like to turn a photo into a link, follow these steps:

1) Upload your image, add it to your page, and click on it.

2) Click on the hyperlink button in the text editor (see below).

3) In the modal that pops up, enter in the URL you'd like to link to (or click the upload icon to upload or select a PDF from your Novi Files), the title, and the target of the link (opening in the same window or a new window).

4) Save and your new photo link is created!

Email Links

If you would like to embed a link to an email, your URL should include the following:

  • mailto:{full email address}

Keep in mind that web scrapers like to get their hands on publicly available email addresses. We recommend that you limit the use of this feature to members-only pages or in cases where you are ok that a particular email may receive excess spam.

Best Practices

  • If your link is an internal link, meaning that you are linking to another part of your site, you do not need to include the "www.yourassociation.org" part of the URL. For example, if you wanted to link to your events page, you could simply set the URL as "/events" and the link will work.

  • If your link is external, we suggest setting the Target to "New Window." This way, your link will not pull visitors away from your site. It will open for them in a new window.

  • Your URL can also lead to a PDF, rather than another webpage. To do this, all you would need to do when creating the link is upload the PDF. Click on the upload icon to the right of the URL section. This will take you to the file uploader. Upload your PDF, select it, and your link will open that PDF. (see icon below)
