In July 2023, Google will officially retire its Universal Analytics (UA), meaning you'll need to implement the newest version: Google Analytics 4 (GA4)!

This transition is simpler than it seems. At this webinar, Stephen Pashby, Account Manager for DesignHammer, walked attendees through the basics of setting up GA4 and leveraging Google Tag Manager.

If you'd like to reach out to DesignHammer for a consultation or help with implementation, you can email Stephen Pashby at analytics@designhammer.com.

Important: In July 2023, Google stopped tracking UA numbers for analytics.

If your Google Measurement ID begins with UA-, you still have a Universal Analytics property and Google Analytics has stopped tracking your analytic data.

To continue tracking activity on your Novi site, a GA4 property number is needed instead of a UA.

What is Google Analytics 4 (GA4)?

  • GA4 is Google Analytics' most advanced model for tracking and analysis.

    • It promises a more nuanced understanding of the customer journey and greater predictive capabilities.

  • GA4 is incompatible with Universal Analytics (UA). Additionally, there is no direct method for migrating historical data from your UA property to a new GA4 property.

How can I implement GA4 on my Novi site?

What if I want better data?

  • DesignHammer recommends leveraging Google Tag Manager if you want to gather more than the base data provided by GA4.

  • Google Tag Manager (GTM) allows you to manage marketing tags without messing with your website code.

    • Marketing tags are bits of code placed on a website to study user activity.
